Discrimination

Discrimination has been a problem in America since this country was first established. The Pilgrims discriminated against the Native Americans when they first settled in this country, and before there was even a word to describe their actions. Discriminations are defined as the unfair treatment of a person or group due to prejudice. A prejudice is some preconceived notion, belief, or judgment of a group based on race, gender, sex, origin, class, or disability. Discrimination acts protect women, African Americans and other minorities, people disabilities, and people who may be pregnant. These laws basically prohibit any business, agency, or government entity from discriminating on any person, for any reason. The idea is for everyone to be created equal and awarded the same opportunities. Equality is a huge factor in everything that goes on in the United States. Now, while the government can not prevent individuals from forming their own biases or discriminating in their personal lives, they can regulate businesses, and employers. For a while in history, women were not allowed to work in industries that men do, and when they were allowed, they received unequal pay. Discrimination acts protect these women and ensure that they are allowed to work. The discrimination act also had a provision added to it that allowed … Continue reading

For Example, African Americans discriminating against Caucasians based off of the events of the past like slavery, and Civil Rights Movement. In such cases it is intended to stop discrimination that minority groups may already face. Reverse discrimination may also be used to highlight the discrimination that exists in affirmative action programs. Many employers will stop discrimination toward African Americans by being even more selective with there Caucasian counterparts Reverse discrimination aims to remedy entrenched social inequalities when minority groups are unable to access the same privileges as the majority.
